This paper systematically explores recent AR trends in surgery with a clear emphasis on human factors. Two comprehensive case studies provide practical illustrations of these concepts, highlighting both successes and ongoing challenges within laparoscopic and liver surgery contexts.
We conclude by outlining essential future research directions necessary to overcome these HF challenges, emphasising the importance of adaptive, user-centred AR systems that seamlessly integrate into diverse clinical practices.
